What's the curly girl method?

Re: Curly hair issues

The official CG method involves washing with conditioner instead of shampoo and a whole host of other things. There are whole websites dedicated to curly hair and methods of dealing with it.

If you're looking for info, I suggest these:

naturallycurly.com
britishcurlies.com

The forums on both websites are huge sources of information. It's worth noting that other things such as hair porosity come into play too.

Thank you! I have super curly hair, and for most of my life I've dealt with it by straightening or tying it back because I had no idea how else to manage it. I'm gonna absorb this stuff.

You're very welcome! If you don't mind the advice, I highly recommend:

- reading a lot before you jump in
- keeping a diary if you decide to go for it
- looking into porosity - it can be a very important part of hair care routines
- always keeping in mind that your hair will hate some products such as protein, polyquarternium, etc

:)

It's not any conditioner, though. Regular conditioners would cause a lot of buildup they couldn't wash. And the reason the method says to skip shampoo is because of sulfates and petrolatum - if you can find shampoos that don't have the blacklisted ingredients, you can use those shampoos along with conditioners without blacklisted substances. Basically you have to read labels a lot. It helps, though.

CG method isn't for everyone.

Hmm, I don't understand what this has to do with my post... I was explaining that it's not simply using any conditioner instead of shampoo the way it was sounding like. You have to understand what the method says it's wrong with mainstream shampoos and conditioners for curly hair.

I have wavy hair, not even fully curly, and I've given up on shampoo entirely. I only wash with conditioner. It works really well.

Shampoo dries out my hair and makes it look appallingly frizzy. Not that cute frizzy you see in shampoo ads, either. Just looks unwashed and ugly.

Another good tip is to wrap the just-damp hair before it's fully dry in a towel, or to wear a hat for at least half an hour. Also cuts down on the frizz.

I've found that soft cotton shirts work better than regular towels at reducing frizz!

Yeah I only wash my hair every four or five days or I look like a Helena Bonham Carter version of Shirley Temple. My hair is curly AND fine, which makes it even harder to deal with sometimes.
