Isn't that limiting? What if you have an idea for a fanfic of a mainstream fandom that won't go away?

Not OP, but I don't think it's that limiting. I have so many plot bunnies for small fandoms occupying my mind, to the point where I definitely don't have time to write them all. So I think it's possible to be completely sated creatively on small fandoms alone.

It is possible to be sated, but some fandoms are more inspiring than others. For most of my fandoms I have never had a fanfic idea or a plot bunny, and in my entire life there have only been six that actually generated ideas foe me, and none of them were fandoms I was particularly active in, so it wasn't to do with how much I was exposed to the fandom or anything.

Hm that's interesting. I guess I'm different -- I get tons of bunnies and am a very slow writer so I have a lot of liberty to pick and choose which ones I think about enough to develop into a fic.
