I loved the movie on its own merits.

This seems to be a very unpopular opinion at FS, but I thought it was a fantastic movie for many of the reasons that y'all seem to hate it. :(

I was honestly happy that the prince was pretty much useless and that true love's kiss was shown as something that was long developing, not as this random OMG YOU'RE GORGEOUS meeting. Also, the summer/winter lesbian relationship was so strong. I know it was supposed to be a mother daughter thing, but it was not feeling that towards the end.

When they actually went there and had Maleficent's kiss be the kiss that awakened her--I know in the movie it's presented as maternal, but all I could think was, "There goes all the Yuletide femslash. Yay!"

Knew it would happen when the prince failed. But yeah, just it's too good not to see it.

For a moment or two, I thought the crow guy was going to be the one to do it since he clearly cared about her, but I really preferred it being Maleficent.

I loved it! Yes, it was predictable, but it's at heart a family film (but the femmslaaaaaaaaassssssh was soooo good oops). But the director is a first timer who has come to it from the artistic production/direction side of things and gosh, did it show. What a visually lovely and lush film. It reminds me of the movies I loved when I was a child, like the Dark Crystal.

I didn't watch in 3D, though, because I cannot abide that format.
