I... what? Ignoring the "gross and sexist" thing, which is hilarious and wrong, but did you actually think they'd choose someone unattractive? First of all, it's pretty damn hard to find a woman of her height (6'3"), especially in the acting industry. Second, there are vanishingly few actresses who aren't attractive, and those women don't generally get a lot of parts. There might be a tall, broad, masculine, ugly actress who's perfect for Brienne, but she'd never be cast. It's shitty, but it's true.

I'll admit that I'm biased, because I've never read the books and I want to climb Gwendoline Christie like a tree, but I think she's wonderful as Brienne. She's got the height and the frame, but most importantly, she's a fantastic actress. That trumps looks any day.

I've read the books, and for me, I thought she as just about exactly how I pictured her, except for a few things about how her face was affected by fighting (iirc there was something about her teeth and a previously broken nose?) But when I saw her, she pretty much matched my mental image (so, apparently I'm gross and sexist too yay!)
