Yooooooooou... need to take a chill pill.

The best time I ever had in fandom was the 1-2 years I spent in a very small but very tight-knit circle of fans shipping a rare pairing. At any given time there were probably around 5-10 people contributing regularly. I never felt more creative, and never felt the need to proselytize on fandom streets.

This. I've been in a lot of fandoms, and I still think the B5 fandom on Tumblr is one of the best I've ever been in. It's pretty small, but that's what makes it fun, to me. It's easier to get to know people. :D I guess it depends a lot on how you interact with fandom, though. For some people, the appeal is a broader, more impersonal (but still enjoyable) connection with TONS OF PEOPLE; for others, it's a smaller, closer group where you can know most of the people individually.
