I've seen more than one online discussion about work horror stories where people who had worked in retail mentioned having to clean up poop in fitting rooms. Now Buzzfeed wrote a whole "article" about it.

So, who does this? Have you ever? And why? I mean, someone must be doing it if it happens.

I also saw some guy peeing at the park while I was walking the dog. I think from the point of view of the picnic table he'd been sitting at, he was behind a tree, but it was in plain view of the street. Then he came over and tried to pester me for my phone number, like I hadn't just had to see him peeing in plain sight. I was so disgusted. Why do people do this stuff.

I remember coming across a book on amazon that was called "How to Shit in the Woods: An Environmentally Sound Approach to a Lost Art". That was kind of weird, someone writing a whole book about shitting in the woods.
That's all I have to contribute to this thread.

I wouldn't really call it "weird", but a couple of years back I was green-laning with my family and a group of other Land Rover owners. Green-lanes, for those who don't know, are legal roads that aren't really what most people would call roads, typically farm tracks, or unmetalled dirt roads, or steep rocky climbs. That sort of thing. As you can imagine, this was in the countryside, not a place known for its abundance of public facilities. So whenever we stopped, at least one person would wander off to find some concealing vegetation to do their business behind. Quite a few rolls of loo paper were used that day.

We used to do this all the time. Not even just green-laning, but camping, hiking, and even long-haul normal drives where roadside facilities were few and far between (or of such a state that undergrowth was honestly more sanitary). Just pull over at an isolated spot and hop behind the hedge or into a copse or something. I've never understood the aversion some people have for this.

I suppose it's because we're taught from an early age that bodily waste is to be disposed of in a proper bathroom, and that relieving yourself outside is disgusting and wrong and something that only perverts/weirdoes do.

When I worked in JC Penney's somebody decided to jack off in the fitting room. They left a big mess.

I dunno why people are gross and inconsiderate. I guess they just weren't raised correctly.

I caught some guy jerking off in a bookstore once, and no, it wasn't a porno bookstore. Ewie.

Now and then, I imagine it's about pure and immediate intestinal distress. There's little kids with poor potty control and there's adults with IBS, and it's a choice between dropping trou in the changing room and ruining said trou on the run to a proper bathroom. Sometimes you just gotta go and that's understandable, but what's fucked up is when A) they make no attempt to clean it up themselves (the salespeople will likely not begrudge you an apologetic request for janitorial supplies if it means they don't have to touch your shit), and B) they don't tell anybody so nobody stumbles into surprise sewage.

But I suspect a fair number of them are just plain gross assholes who should be razed from the earth.

Nope, they certainly would not. And most likely they'd be weirded out, but grateful that you didn't leave it for them to find later.

I worked at an overnight summer camp. And one of the girls in my cabin decided to take a dump in the shower room's trash can. (The ages were around 12, by the way. Old enough to know better.) Figured this out after the whole cabin took showers and the turds had been throughly saturated with humidity. Definitely one of the worst smells I ever had to experience.

I've only ever gone to the bathroom outside when there weren't facilities available, like going camping or fishing and stuff. But I wouldn't ever go somewhere you definitely shouldn't. That's just wrong and gross.

When I was at the cinema this past weekend, there was a sign on the washroom wall that showed how to properly sit on the toilet, so apparently that's an issue for some people too. (The wrong way was to squat on the toilet seat, which is apparently preferable to some rather than just sitting down.)

Is squat the new hover?

This is actually a cultural issue. Not everywhere uses the porcelain throne, and squat toilets are still a common thing.

Possible TMI here, but I used to get fairly extreme constipation, and squatting was honestly the most effective/least uncomfortable position to try and void from.

Mostly I went home when I felt it coming on if at all possible, though, rather than stay anywhere with public bathrooms. Not so much out of consideration, admittedly, as because the first time it happened to me was in a public bathroom, I had no idea what the fuck was happening except that my entire abdomen was on fire, and someone panicked and came to the not-unwarranted conclusion that I was in labour. I was too stupid with pain and panic to correct them, so I ended up in A&E trying to explain that barring it was the immaculate fucking conception, I was not pregnant or in labour and could someone please make it stop hurting now? Single most embarrassing/painful afternoon of my life, and that was before they forgot to put the vial in while I was getting blood drawn and ended up spurting my own blood all over my lap.

So, anyway. I don't imagine it happens often enough to need signage to deal with it, but sometimes attempting to squat is a thing that happens?

No, I haven't, and I hope I never do. o.O

I read a story on customers_suck once about someone who worked at a public library in a mall. They had a drunk dude walk in one evening but he wasn't annoying anyone so they let him be...until they caught him mid-dump in a plastic plant pot. In the library. Not even in the bathroom.

During holiday a few years ago I was out taking a stroll with my friends. It was a beautiful day, lots of families around and we were walking along side a lake. Suddenly some guy on a park bench whips out his dick in plain sight of everybody and starts peeing into the street. To this day I am not sure if he was drunk or if they just had some different social norms there.

1. There's a gas station I often visit on the road when I leave town.

One time, in the ladies' room, someone had successfully managed to spray pee across the walls and sink mirror.

I repeat, IN THE LADIES' ROOM.

Fortunately, the men's room was okay to use.

2. Weird but quite common -- public pools. Look, I know pee is sterile when it first comes out of the body, and as long as there is enough chlorine or fluorine solution to combat all the grossness (except for feces obviously), a little pee in the pool probably won't hurt anybody. But for me, I have certain rules I live by. One of those rules is that I don't pee on other people without their consent. But since I know most other people don't extend that same courtesy, I steer clear of public pools.

(And in general people in the pool are just gross, some don't wash their crack properly and plenty don't shower before entering the pool. And if a lot of people go pee, it's basically like mixing ammonia and bleach. It can be toxic.)

2. is why I never, ever go into water where there are many people in it, especially if they have kids with them. I'm not enthusiastic about water as it is, but this is just the cherry on top of the proverbial cake.

Yeah, when I worked retail we had someone poop in a fitting room once (luckily I was off that day, I only heard about it later). We also had a little kid pee in a fitting room one time, though that's at least a little more understandable. And one time a toddler pooped his pants and the parents bought a new pair of pants for him, changed him in the fitting room and then left the soiled pants there without telling anyone about it. Ah, the joys of retail. (Not quite the same thing, but I did once have someone pay by giving me a ten covered in baby vomit. When I was understandably hesitant to take it, she went "Oh, sorry" and wiped it off a little with a tissue and then handed it back, like that made it somehow less gross.)

Reminds me of that time a kid in my school shat out of a third-floor window. What's worse, said window would only open vertically and was about seven feet high. Don't ask me how.

In comparison to some of the stories here I have seen very little myself, except maybe the one time I had to use a public toilet in a park in my hometown at it was all clogged up with toilet paper and rubbish, but Mum once had an incident in her younger years (some time before I was born, but after she had my brothers - so mid-to-late 70s) where she was in a line-up for a toilet and some other woman let her kid just crouch and poop on the floor in the stall. Mum called her out on it, really tore into her verbally, and she and a few of the others who were waiting basically forced her to clean it up. She at least scrapped the worst of it up so the cleaner wouldn't have to.

Mum still maintains a measure of disgust about that, because as she's said, at the time she had two boys who were under 5, and she believed that it was her duty to make sure they pooped in the toilet, even if she had to bodily pick them up and seat them on the loo.
