(Anonymous) 2014-06-04 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)Who cares about popularity, really? What matters is how much fun you're having. Fandom is a hobby (or should be!) I mean, sure, it's AWESOME to have tons of awesome fic and art, but the biggest fandoms can be some of the ugliest too. I'd personally contribute in a fandom I feel comfortable in than one with lots of fic and art but is an awful experience (e.g. when I watched SPN I loved reading the fic, watching the fanvids etc. but was petrified to participate in the fandom actively). If you can get both, AWESOME. Popularity may be validation, but it doesn't make a fandom 'better'. Popularity is NOT quality.
