I have trouble exercising my arms. I have a back problem and when I work my arms out too much I tend to end up with "OH MY GOD THE PAIN. THE AGONY. SOMEBODY PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY SO I DON'T HAVE TO FEEL THIS ANYMORE" type pain. So I have flabby arms.

Thing is, I'm skinny. So when I say 'I wish I could work out my arms more' I get side-eyed and told that I don't need to work out because I'm not fat.

That sucks. There are so many other reasons to want to work out other than weight loss.

Ugh, I hate how people think the only reason to work out is to lose weight. Or the only reason to eat certain things is to lose weight. This is why I say that people should be focused on healthy habits rather than size.

What kind of workouts are you doing? Maybe you just need to do milder workouts for shorter periods of time more frequently instead of a more intense workout. Something like these?:

I swear those circling your arms things are simultaneously the most brutal arm workouts I've done and the easiest. I don't have back problems so I can't speak to that, but I've not felt much of the work in my back, it's mostly in the bicep/tricep.

Can you go swimming?

I know I have been all over the past few posts like I'm the lobbyist for swimming, but I really really like swimming as an exercise. It makes me strong, and while I get a little achy sometimes, I never get the kind of pain that I get when I do other exercises.

That's a good idea. The only pool I have access to is frequented by screaming children. :( I might try going at a different time, but it's outdoors, and daylight only lasts so long.

Yeah, the kiddies are problematic. They get in the way of laps. :(

It takes me about thirty minutes right now to swim a quarter of a mile. Any way you could ask the lifeguard about instituting a thirty minute adult swim at some point during the day to let adults exercise? Couldn't hurt.

There isn't a lifeguard, but I could ask the apartment manager. They might be willing to do it. Thanks for the idea! :)
