I have honestly never experienced fandom this way. Not even back in the good ole bad ole days in HP fandom in the Pit of Voles when I was a Snape/Sirius fan (this would have been between PoA and OotP). I have honestly and truly never been in a ship war, despite having shipped pairs that were apparently involved in them. Or better to say, maybe, that I've never noticed being in a ship war.

I don't think I've the personality for it, maybe? I multiship like bedamned, which probably helps. Most of my interaction with fandom is by writing, and generally I just write whatever I'm in the mood for or sometimes what I'm prompted into writing, and sort of ... the rest be damned?

I've written rare pairs to controversial pairs to non-existant pairs to middling popular pairs to (once in a blue moon) actual mega pairs, depending on the canon and the fandom and the mood I'm in on the day. I've written several things where I've gotten people to say they'd never imagined such a pairing before but now that they'd read it it made sense, and I've written pairs where people have told me that it was sick, twisted and wrong and why was that so hot all of a sudden, and I've written pairs where people went "Hahahaha, are you nuts?" (for the record, probably yes). A couple of times I've gotten in on the ground floor for what later boomed into a megaship, and rather more of the time I've been sitting there with my few fics and maybe three other people's fics wondering why no-one saw that incredible canon scene the way I had (incidentally, still waiting on the bunch of ST:TOS McCoy/Khan fics based on the scalpel scene in Space Seed, what's wrong with y'all, get on that people).

Judging by this secret, I think maybe this way of doing fandom, while occasionally more disappointing, may also be more relaxing.
