Handwriting

[personal profile] otakugal15 2014-06-05 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
I was so amused by an anon who misidentified me on a fail bar secret that I just wanted to share this:

So, I guess for those who don't have issues with it, what's your handwriting look like? On paper it's a tad bit more clean than this up here. I never did get the hang of writing on my tablet. Drawing is something else, but writing? Eh.

I think I recounted this story once; my handwriting is a) very round and clear and b) positively gigantic, both due to the bad eyesight of my former Maths teacher. Even though it was a long time ago that I was a student of his, I never got rid of the habit of making my letters monstrously huge. The lines are very thick, too, for the same reason, and my hand often starts to ache when I write too much.

Your handwriting is very nice, though, clear-cut and pleasant-looking. It's a bit like rain falling straight down, only softer.

My handwriting is terrible, especially when I'm taking quick notes only for myself. I've occasionally had trouble deciphering my own notes a few months later.

I also realized at some point that I use the almost same motion with different sizing for: a, d, g, n, q, r, u, w, and y, so any of those can end up looking like any others. (I'm looking at a note on my desk, and I'm pretty sure what I wrote as "wiring" could not unreasonably be read as "urray" or "unrirg")

I know how that feels, on teh note taking. My friends'll poke at me over it, too.

I do that sometimes. Like. when I write a name down, like say...Dhuy, I write it so fast Dhuy looks like Dhy. >_> And my "Ls," "Hs," "Ns," and "Ts" all end up connected, so they sometimes get smushed.

Very old handwriting meme:

http://nyxelestia.livejournal.com/70555.html

It's old, but my handwriting hasn't changed all that much. It just changes based on what I'm writing with.

This is generally how I write my fanfic:

holy shit, you write like Conan Doyle. The letters are a tad taller, but otherwise... I'm envious.

Pro-tip: any handwriting looks fancier when you tilt the paper, so that you're writing your letters towards the corner. When I sit facing the table straight on, my paper is tilted so that the long edge/ruling is almost closer to me than the short edge. No matter what your handwriting is like, that will always make it look fancier. Also, ink/gel pens are better than ballpoint pens for this sort of them. :P

You know, you're right on the gel/ink pens. I remember them looking ten times cleaner than a ballpoint ever did.

Re: Handwriting

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-06-05 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ball point pens are very good for print, because they require a wee bit more pressure, meaning they favor writing with straight lines, lifting and setting down the pen on the paper a lot, etc. Gel pens, ink pens, and the like don't require pressure but do work best when the ink is flowing, so they allow flowing movement better and favor lifting the pen from the paper as little as possible, which is why they are better for cursive. Fountain pens, if you get a good one, are a mix of both in that they are dependent on ink flowing, but also require pressure to work (if not much), so they still are better with print but allow for a more flow/cursive-ish appearance.

*actually follows a blog about pens*

WHOA. That is some neat handwriting...but I so can't read it. XD;;;

That's actually why I started writing like that. I can write all the fanfic in the middle of class I want and no one can tell that it isn't notes. :P

I don't know man, I'd wonder why your notes had lines of dialogue in them.

Re: Handwriting

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-06-05 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Quoting the teacher? :P

In all seriousness, I also took actual notes in class, which meant having two notebooks in class. My teachers probably knew full well that I was doing something else - but I also answered questions and was taking damn good notes, so they never cared what else I was doing as long as I was able to keep up with the class.

Meanwhile, my classmates were mostly confused as to how the fuck I was keeping up with two notebooks, writing so much story and yet also taking such great notes throughout the class. :P

My handwriting is teeeeeeerrible. But at least I can read what I wrote, so.

I'm the same.

Re: Handwriting

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
My handwriting is basically print, just that my Is and Es tend to run into other letters...it's not pretty but it's fairly legible.

Interestingly, my handwriting looks almost exactly like a mix of my Mom's and my Dad's. I'm wondering if it's a genetic thing, or because I'm homeschooled. ;)

omg, i's bubble dots! Your writing is very easy to read, though. I usually have trouble reading others' hamdwriting.

It's pretty neat, mistakes and all!! And very legible. I come across very few people who have legible cursive. XD;;

I only ever did use cursive when ever a teacher told us to hand write an essay. Otherwise? It was typed and anything else was in my weird mix of cursive/print and that's when I end up writing fast and it turns into chicken scratch. :P

Re: Handwriting

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, even an anon wants to get in on this. My handwriting isn't chicken scratch, but it's certainly not pretty. (I just grabbed a draft of an original story I first wrote a year and a half ago. I haven't been able to get much feedback on it since it's about 13k words.)

That's not bad at all. It's not super-tidy, but it's definitely very legible. And it has a certain charm to it.

Re: Handwriting

[personal profile] otakugal15 2014-06-05 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with cassandraoftroy, it's very easy to read. Though I swear it looks a lot my friend's writing...just neater. (i love her to pieces, but even in print her handwriting can be a tad illegible)

Re: Handwriting

[personal profile] solticisekf 2014-06-05 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
I like looking handwriting because I like to guess others' character based on it.) Like if the letters are round a person like to avoid confrontations, that sort of thing.

Re: Handwriting

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
I always want to write really neat, but it always tends to turn into a scrawl. It can look cool sometimes, though. But I tend to write pretty fast and often simply forget to put down ending letters like t and d.
