Re: Do you consider atheists oppressed?
There are certainly places and circumstances in which they are persecuted (usually metaphorically, sometimes literally). However, while it does happen, by and large they are not oppressed - or at least it's rare and it's not something that can be applied to atheists as a whole group.
I've been harassed due to my lack of religious belief and heavily pressured to keep quiet about it, but I have yet to be denied an institutional right or privilege because of it, and given my location and circumstances, I highly doubt that will actually happen to me anytime soon or with any severity.
