Re: hey Bridge of Birds anon
AFAIU it is the first one in a series? Is the rest of it like this? I'm a little apprehensive.
Re: hey Bridge of Birds anon
But... I can't actually answer because I've never read the other books in the series. But I have to assume they're just as good, given how good Bridge of Birds is. I mean, it's not like he could completely screw that up, right?
One other thing you might want to check out, just because it's the only thing I can think of that's really in the same genre, is the Kai Lung stories by Ernest Bramah. They're not nearly as good, and a great deal more old-fashioned, and they don't have the same awesome friendship and warmth, but they're reasonably amusing.
Re: hey Bridge of Birds anon
I'll just rely on the author, then! I don't think he'll screw it up, either, but my experience tells me anything good can be spoiled if sufficient effort is made :/
Regardless of that, thanks for answering and for the rec. Though the main reason I picked Bridge of Birds was because of its warmth (I had just finished The Monstrumologist and was desperate for something to mend my broken heart), this genre does strike me as a very interesting phenomenon, and I may check Bramah out once I'm done with my Julian Barnes&Karamzin.
