Re: Problems that don't sound like problems

I mean I'm getting so desperate for high-calorie stuff that is not sweet that I've started eating spoonfuls of spicy mayo. Which for some reason actually keeps the nausea at bay for a little while, so I can eat a little more.

That actually makes perfect sense to me but I don't know how to go about explaining why. It almost sounds like your stomach is producing too much acid, and spicy/acidic things neutralize it for a bit.

Have you ever tried taking a shot of apple cider vinegar before eating?

Aw crap, I just saw how you're not looking for advice. Sorry; I hope this doesn't come across as presumptuous. :-/

Yeah, actually I could go into a lot of detail about what things help my stomach and research I've done on the internet in the absence of having access to actual medical care, which basically led me to believe that I have one underlying problem which has been known to cause another problem when triggered by another problem (which I definitely experienced shortly before this flare started three years ago, and before the first flare almost thirty years ago). And the underlying problem is actually not producing ENOUGH stomach acid. The only way I can eat at all is to first have a small amount of highly acidic/spicy food, which seems to stimulate or supplement my stomach to actually try to do what it's supposed to do.

Apple cider vinegar was one of the top suggestions, but I can't stand the taste of it - it tastes too much like beer for my liking. So I use straight lemon juice or grapefruit juice instead most of the time, or a spoonful of mustard or pickle juice, since those are mostly vinegar. And it's really only the apple cider variety I can't stand, due to the beery taste. Sometimes I'll wake up feeling like complete crap, make myself down a shot of 100% white grapefruit juice (no cocktail!), and after about 10-15 minutes I can actually eat a few bites of something that ISN'T highly acidic.

(As I noted, I've been at this for awhile, done tons of research, tried many many things... which is the only reason I'm shooting people's suggestions down. I really do appreciate that people are trying to help. I just honestly don't think there's a whole lot of advice/theories left by this time that I haven't already heard and/or tried. =))

Late NA is late

You might have already tried this, but do appetizer vinegars also make you sick? There are these vinegars (often fruity, but not always) that are pretty mild, so you can basically just drink them straight, or mix them with water/soda, depending on how high your tolerance acid tolerance is. If you can tolerate acidic foods/drinks it might at least help with your drinking problem (you mentioned upthreat that you also can't really drink stuff).

Are you fine with lactose-free diery? I once had lactose-free mozzarella (or something close to it) drenched in balsamico. The balsamico basically masks everything, so it tasted nice enough, and I think that would be high-calorie as well?
