I'm surprised this secret is getting so many negative replies. I think OP makes a lot of valid points. War is probably just a joke (ever heard of hyperbole?), meanwhile the feeling that you can't ever do enough to get your fandom/your ship off the ground is real. All the work in all the world and you can't really build stuff up if there aren't people around who want to read/look at it. You can just be the person who is producing stuff - which is fine and laudable, but sad. And it must be depressing to see how much effort other ships are not putting in in order to be megaships, etc.

I do not understand all the hate.
