*shrug* I keep hoping they'll include Spider-man but (controversial opinion ahead!!!) I like Tobey better than Andrew Garfield

(I assume you're talking about the actor, otherwise this is horribly OT and I apologize)

Is that really a controversial opinion? I haven't seen either of the Garfield movies because the Tobey ones are the Spidey movies for me and I think it is stupid that the rebooted something so soon. But Tobey was perfect in my mind (not so much in the third one, but in the other two completely).

I was under the impression that everyone loved Garfield and the reboots were really popular, but I'm glad it's not just me. Maybe in some places they're less popular.

Anyway, your entire comment basically encapsulates my opinion on Spidey. :D

I enjoyed the Tobey movies waaaaay more! I appreciate that Andrew's Spider-Man is pretty faithful to comics Spider-Man, and that Emma Stone is awesome, but I will never have the love for the reboot that I did for Tobey and his films.

I despise the Tobey movies. :c They made Spidey way too serious, and much less of a dork.

Unfortunately this will never happen. Spiderman, the Xmen, and the Avengers lines are all owned by entirely different studios that are way too petty to get along and make friends for the sake of the story. So no Spidey, and weird repeat versions of Xmen that can't legally be called mutants by Marvel Studios. Oh, and no Fantastic Four until Fox (??) gives up the goods. No merchandise, no new comics, no new storylines, nada, zip, nothing.

MONEY.

Pretty much yeah. Also, while I like the MCU a lot more in general than the X-Men movies, it just doesn't have that same joy-in-the-unique-experience-of-having-powers that the X-Men movies had that made his character so much fun ;)

I love how everyone (myself included) went from "omg DOFP!Pietro is so embarrassing, A2!Pietro will 'win' this no problem" to "well damn, A2 will have some big Pietro shoes to fill."

cap 2 spoilers

The way I see it, they're going to be two completely different characters. (With different personalities, backgrounds, etc, so there isn't much point of comparing them.)

...However, people will do it anyway, I'll probably do it anyway as well, even though, again, apples and orange. It's okay to prefer one or the other too. (But we haven't exactly seen much of him or Wanda yet so there's no telling what his character is going to be like in AOU.)

(...Except, well, it appears that Pietro and Wanda will be antagonists since Hydra had locked them up and experimented on them, but I'm hoping at some point during the movie they'll turn on Hydra and work with the Avengers.)

But in regards to Peter Evans as Quicksilver, I can't imagine liking anyone else better in the role just because he's so funny and weird and endearing, and AOU sounds like it might be a bit more serious so that Pietro probably won't get to have as much fun. The sheer glee that Peter's scenes filled me with would be tough to beat.

In my opinion, Pietro in DoFP stole the show because he was so much fun. Everybody else is all srs bsns and then he comes along for kicks and giggles.

That scene in the kitchen was one of my favorite parts of the movie.

Why would that make them antagonists, necessarily?

I had troubles with seeing 'Peter' as Pietro at all. I bet Marvel's Quicksilver will be much closer to the original-ish.
Then again, I don't like the Fox versions of pretty much everyone except old!Xavier and old!Magneto, everyone else is just... ugh.

He's way more like the X-men Evolution version of Pietro than any other I've seen (minus the snooty "My dad runs this group" Draco Malfoy-esque attitude).

(Anonymous) 2014-06-07 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I was so worried about how he was going to turn out in DOFP but when he ended up being amazing I found myself becoming concerned that Avengers!Quicksilver couldn't compare

[personal profile] firstmoonie 2014-06-07 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
They'll be different though. Aaron will be more true to character it seems while Evan's portrayal was closer to Wally.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-07 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm mostly just annoyed that they chose to overlap their universes with that particular character. He is so not interesting enough for the potential copyright battles, and I wish they would have gone big with the Fantastic Four or something (redone from scratch, of course, because the less said about those movies, the better.)

They are redoing Fantastic Four.

The cast seems young and the whole Kate Mara as Sue Storm and Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm thing had people wondering about the Storm family backstory (adoption, half-siblings, etc.).

AoU's Quicksilver won't be as good, simply because Aaron is a terrible actor. I still shudder when I think about his scenes in Godzilla.

me too. He was probably my favorite part of DoFP.

I'm interested what they'll do in the Avengers-verse. I think they're going for a darker Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
The thing about the Avengers is that it has literally every character going for it. If Quickie sucks in AOU, it won't matter because he doesn't need to carry the movie. There are other characters to squee about so I'm not bothered by DOFP!Pietro not being it.

X-Men movies, on the other hand, don't have much in the way of characters (besides Erik, Charles, and JLaw's terribly miscast Mystique), so DOFP Pietro is like a breath of fresh air and a much more crucial part to make the movie enjoyable.

[personal profile] truxillogical 2014-06-08 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I mean, I like Avengers and the MCU way more than the X-men flicks, and I'm sure Pietro will be cool, but man...can anything really top "Time in a Bottle?"

[personal profile] jorockz 2014-06-08 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
My prob with the character in DOFP was his character was sooo good...and then the rest of the movie I kept going ' You know who would be useful here? QUICKSILVER'

In that one scene he basically came off as the most powerful mutant out of everyone!

FFS the last action piece was in DC right? Where he lived? So he could have been there in 5 seconds, so he kinda created a massive plothole, which isn't suprising since he as added at the last minute to the movie.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Off-topic, but can someone please tell me why they changed Pietro's name to "Peter" in DoFP? Was it to make him distinct from the Quicksilver in Avengers 2? Because if so, that's pretty stupid. Every time someone said "Peter" in DoFP, I twitched involuntarily.
