I think his costume was adorable too, because it looks like just the type of silly, endearing outfit some troublemaking punk teenager in the 1970s would have adopted.

No self respecting 70's punk would be caught dead listening to Pink Floyd let alone wearing a shirt. They were one of the reasons why punk came into be. To get away from bloated area rock and back to rock's garage roots.

If anything I see Quicksilver's look as closer to being glam than punk. With more monotone and less make-up.

I don't think the anon your replying to meant Punk, the musical genre and lifestyle. I think s/he meant "a punk kid" as in someone who shit-talks authority, but doesn't really have anything to back it up.

Yeah, I kinda agree. Like, I thought it looked hella stupid in all the promo material, but in context? It's hideous and cheap-but-egotistical ("I have a color scheme!") and very much "teenager wearing something he thinks looks cool--in the 70's."

It works.

Yup. I mean, it was the '70s. Have you *seen* what young people wore in the '70s? :D

II am literally in the theater watching this movie. It just ended. I enjoyed his character a lot more than I thought I would.

He's adorable in it. Absolutely adorable. This is one of those cases where I think the costume looks awful in promos, but better in the actual film.* It might still be silly, but...he's a rebellious teen, it fits his personality perfectly. (Also, the era.) I dig it.

This outfit looks like it would be fun to cosplay, actually. I've never cosplayed in my life (and probably never will, because I'm both too lazy and cheap), but I would LOVE to cosplay this Quicksilver.

*I feel this way about lots of things. I loathed the colors of Tony's Iron Man 3 suit until I actually saw it in action, thought Bucky's Winter Soldier costume was atrocious until the first trailers were released, and could not understand Natasha's hair in WS. Even with Natasha's hair (which I know a lot of people still have problems with), I thought it looked much better on film.

I know! I'm sure there's many other fitting examples, but those were the first few that came to mind. (And we're talking about Marvel here, so.)

<3 Thank you! (I have too many.)

I agree with this.

I still think Quicksilver's hair looked a bit silly in the film but that being said it looked much better on-screen than it did in caps and promo-shots.

But it's often the case with costumes, still images don't really do them justice outside of the movie.

still images don't really do them justice outside of the movie

Exactly.

And I didn't mind that it looked a bit silly because I feel like the way Peter was portrayed had a general silliness (and lightheartedness) about him that's super cute and endearing and what makes him so enjoyable to watch, and the hair only helped with that.

I'm looking forward to all the cosplay from these films. (These being X-Men and the latest Cap.)

NGL, I would wear that outfit. Unironically.

Haters to the left.

I thought his costume was really fun, and very fitting to the character.

I've worn worse things.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-07 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I hated the jacket (mostly for self-conscious reasons because I had something very similar only electric blue and I don't want to be reminded of that dark part of my past) but I think it fit into the setting and I could see it as something he'd wear. But there is no excuse for that wig.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. He's such a fantastic little dirtbag. I'm pretty sure he dyed his hair and his jacket with the same can of silver spray paint.

I actually didn't mind it either. The outfit made sense for the character. The hair was AWFUL at first, but it looked okay when he had the goggles on.

I loved his outfit! I thought it was cool even before I saw the movie. When I saw him in action, I loved it even more.
