Well, then defend celebrity culture.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
it's no worse than fandom which i find absolutely disgusting.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Then why are you even here?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
it's fascinating. a bunch of grown people who regularly masturbate to fictional characters fucking, get angry about comic book storylines, reads real person fiction and watch my little pony while complaining about celebrity culture is fascinating.

How'd you even find this place?

[personal profile] jaybie_jarrett 2014-06-08 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh hey.

Everyone has an opinion.

Is there something you enjoy, why not hang out with people who share that interest? That's basically what we're doing in fandom, sharing an interest in one thing. I don't really see how it's "disgusting" really. If I love Danny Phantom and Harry Potter I want to talk with other people who like Danny Phantom and Harry Potter and share opinions and ideas about it.

Just like people who like a particular show like to get together and talk about that show. I also like to get together with people who write and talk about writing. Other people like to get together with people who like a sport and discuss that sport.

I don't really see how discussing a story (whether it be a TV series or a book series or an anime or movie of graphic novel) is somehow bad or pathetic or disgusting.

In that case you must hate literature academics right?

regularly masturbate to fictional characters fucking

So I'm guessing you also hate actual porn? Because, well...that's basically what porn is: people playing fictional characters who fuck for the masturbatory pleasure of others.

get angry about comic book storylines

Is this only upsetting to you because it involves comic books, or do you also find it disgusting when, say, people hang out at the office water cooler bitching about the latest episode of Popular TV Show?

reads real person fiction

As distinct from reading tabloids?

and watch my little pony

As distinct from watching anything else?

Do you just hate it and find it disgusting when people are fans of things? Do you think that adults shouldn't entertain themselves with fiction or that, if they do, then they shouldn't talk about it with anyone? Do you dislike it when people have common interests and discuss them?

There are definitely people in fandom who are batshit, but most people aren't; they're just into something and want to talk about it with other people who are into it.

what are you, 12?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Twelve? As in the age most of the media fandom consumes is geared towards.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-11 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, not for nothing, but most of the juggernaut fandoms aren't for 12-years-old. Doctor Who, sure, but Supernatural and Sherlock and Teen Wolf not so much. Some of those are at least for teenagers.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course they are. Wannabe trolls and wannabe internet badasses are usually all around 12, at least mentally.
