ah, nostalgia

those are your nostalgia glasses. Yu Yu Hakusho was a run-of-the-mill demon fighting anime that had a LOT of fujoshi bait in it. Sailor Moon was-- and I LOVE Sailor Moon-- a very standard Magical Girl show. Sure some of the titles you listed are true classics based on content alone, but they are few and far between; and new classics are being created these days, but they're just as rare.

Yu Yu Hakusho was actually a pretty good shounen.

sure it was, I'm not saying it wasn't; but there's really nothing that would mark it as a true classic other than it's old and people remember it fondly. Sailor Moon was a pretty good show too, but it was pretty run of the mill.

Point taken. :)

I wouldn't call YYH fujobait. The author is a LGBT supporter, he has written several gay and trans characters not because he wants to appeal to fujoshi but because he likes LGBT chharacters.

But I agree, some of the shows OP listed are crap.

I don't know a lot about the author of YYH, I'll gladly admit, but from the standpoint of a fan (and fujoshi), a lot of us only watched the show because of our slash goggles picking up stuff between Hiei and Kurama.

Funny thing is that I'm sure most of us shipped Hiei and Kurama but never cared very much about Itsuki and Sensui (the actual gay couple). I feel bad for them.

I watched it for the pretty boys, friendships, and the fights tbh. I never really saw anything between Hiei and Kurama.

Just because a lot of people shipped it doesn't mean it was put there as bait. If you watch it with an objective eye you'd have to admit there wasn't that much subtext to "pick up", but nevertheless it was a popular pairing that a lot of fans liked.

That's pretty much exactly what I was going to say. I love anime like Yu Yu Hakusho, Sailor Moon and Rurouni Kenshin (and their catchy theme songs) but even I can admit that they all have a fair share of flaws and got repetitive at times (Rurouni Kenshin to a lesser extent than the other two, imo, though it was still present)

The RK anime had a major problem with filler eps (I don't think any of them were good) and extending the fights with repetitive talking and flashbacks. I say this as somebody who LOVED RK back in the day (though I definitely preferred the manga)

ayrt

Fair enough. I think I'm just remembering it as not being too repetitive because I've rewatched Yu Yu Hakusho and Sailor Moon fairly recently (the repetitiveness didn't bother me so much when I only saw one new episode of YYH and Sailor Moon a week but it really does become super obvious when you marathon them. I hated having to watch the sailor scouts same transformation sequence every episode. Eventually I just fast forwarded through them) while I haven't seen RK in a while. I think I might just be abridging it in my head to remember the most relevant parts
