Nostalgia glasses, as others have said.

I happen to think a lot of new stuff is just as good as old stuff, though being older, it takes a lot more to get me really excited. But Tiger and Bunny, Attack on Titan, Free! ... that's as good, if better, than a lot of the stuff I watched ten, fifteen years ago.

And of course it's easy to pick the REALLY good stuff. Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist... and think anime "back then" was better, but I saw a lot of shitty anime back then, too.

Yeah, this.

This comes up a lot with "(X) generation's stuff was so much better than this generation!". I see it a lot in arguments about music, too. Sure, you can look at the classics from that era and think that this era is shit in comparison, but that's because people forget all about the shit from the old eras and only remember what lasted. In 10/20 years, Attack on Titan may very well be considered a top-tier classic.

no, tiger and bunny was crap. it started pretty neat, with all kinds of funny movie references, a modern character-combo (bromance for instance, which was relatively new to anime in this way), but the animation and writing quality went down the drain after less than half the story, and the ending was generic bullshit if i've ever seen one.

And fyi deathnote - the manga was pretty good, though a little bland, maybe. but the anime was... ugh. just lifeless. i wouldn't even dream of calling that a "back-then-classic".

(btw. Attack on titan is, despite some storytelling eccentrisms, still pretty good, and consistant in it. so it's not like you're calling all blanks there ;-) )
