Haven't Magneto and Professor X been considered one of the top homoerotic non-canon couples in fiction since... long before the X-men movies? Pretty sure people were speculating about them since like, before the Internet.

And yeah, I think their relationship in First Class and the sequel is extremely easy to read as gay, to the point where I can't say with confidence that the implication is accidental. I'm not in the fandom, but I heard the actors actually describe it as a love story between them (the first movie, that is) though of course they didn't say if it was sexual or not.

(OP)

Yeah, from what I can tell Professor X/Magneto is the one slash pairing even a lot of dudebro comics nerds admit would make sense/should be canon. The reason I specified the movies is because it feels like the cast and crew of (especially) the new movies have gone all out talking about what a love story it is, like you said. McAvoy constantly brings it up, the behind the scenes documentary on the First Class DVD has one of the screenwriters talking about how Hank/Raven (which is explicitly framed as romantic) is the B-side story to Charles/Erik, and now you have Kinberg who wrote the DOFP screenplay saying:

“If First Class was Erik’s story and Days Of Future Past is Charles’s story, then Apocalypse will be both of their stories. The first movie was about Erik becoming empowered. That’s the origin story of a man’s power. Days Of Future Past is about a guy who is a mess, masterminding the end of this massive movie. So they are both at their peak powers at the start of Apocalypse, so Apocalypse for me is culmination of that three-act love story.”

And it's just like, come on, guys, clearly everyone on that team would be up for it, just do it. Though I know that, realistically, an alternate universe comic where Charles and Erik are/get together would still be more likely than that (for a relative value of "likely" when talking about things that will never happen).

On my cell so sorry for the crap link

But here he says they should've had sex and gotten married. And Fassbender likes to sing “Sometimes when we touch, the honesty's too much” about Charles/Erik. (And, well, he's done it before about himself and James too, lol. They both have a good sense of humor.)

I think they'd do it in a heartbeat, but the studio would never go there because of any controversy. (Even though imo OP is right and the relationship already reads that way regardless, but what can you do.)

I just can't seem them as simply friends. Maybe my slash goggles are on too tight, but I don't think McAvoy or Fassbender help.

Yeah, not sure about how Anne Marie duff would feel about that. I think it is just a silly joke,

You know I don't really think McAvoy and Fassbender are together, right? Or... Do you think she would have a problem with her husband's character having sex with a man? I don't see why it would be any different than any of his other roles.
