Reading Marvel fanfic penned by UK fans is my karmic due, I've decided, for being an American who wrote Harry Potter. I think about this every time I see a fic with Tony Stark saying, "I suppose you must do."

(Back then I thought it was just about knowing the difference between "boot" and "trunk" and spelling it "colour," for example, but I understand better now--I want to run about shouting, "Americans say 'a little' rather than 'a bit' and 'I won't' instead of 'I'll not'!" Look, I'm having an epiphany!")

American here who does say "a bit". "A little" too. I don't think I have a preference for one or the other, it's just whatever falls out of my mouth at the time.
