That so many Teen Wolf writers have never watched the show and perpetuate fanon characterization.

Yes. Yesx1000. I guess the good thing about it is most of the straight up tell you at the start of a fic or fancreation so you can avoid them if you dont' like it.

... yikes. I had this in my fandom too, so I completely understand, it is very annoying.

Hell, writers who perpetuate nonsensical fanon characterization even when they HAVE watched the show. These are not restricted to Teen Wolf either.

True, it just seems like half the TW fandom hasn't watched show.

Ugh, that is painful to hear. I didn't realize that, though I know the writers leave a lot to be desired. (I remember once seeing a tweet from one of the writers about them losing a teen wolf quiz. I think it was two or three of them and no one knew the answers, lmao.)

Yeah, that's really frustrating.

Ugh. I've seen this happen in other fandoms too. D:

Tiny, possibly related, pet peeve - when Derek has chest hair in a fic

With no explanation. It's stupid, but it throws me right out of a fic. I know he doesn't have his shirt off all of the time, but he does seem to have a shirtless scene at least once a season and there is no hair.

Huh. I usually only see that dropped in AUs, at which point I assume that they assume werewolf chest waxing must be happening. I really don't see it that often, though.

I don't know if it's a matter of writers not watching the show at this point; sweeping fanon characterization gets to be a problem in any huge fandom, and Teen Wolf is certainly big enough by this point.
