(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)If I were writing it, I would've focused exclusively on the first arc, stretched it out into a full series and eliminated the time jumps. I would've made it more ambiguous as to what was happening in the real world - maybe some characters think they'll just "wake up", or that time isn't passing in the real world, people might not actually be dying, etc. Then, Kirito waking up in a hospital at the end would've been more of a shocking twist, because it's what you didn't want to believe, but suspected in your gut. I would've made it less haremy, and focused more on Asuna being a badass, and given her pants. I would've included "real world" flashbacks for Kirito put more emphasis on comparing the two worlds, and maybe Kirito's inability to succeed in the real world.
Kind of a ramble, but I loved so much about the concept of the show, and just felt it missed the boat at almost every turn. There were some cute parts, but most of it was annoyingly wasteful. And I couldn't even get through the second arc of the first season, too much embarrassment...
