Yeah, I don't know why everyone's ragging on Free!. It's a cute slice of life show laden with fanservice, and as long as you don't try to make it anything else, it's fun.

Some of us despise Kyoani and their shows. I'm not okay with characters acting like they have brain problems and the maturity of a 5 years old kid just because it's supposed to be cute to otaku and fujoshi. It's problematic.

I... what? I never got that impression from any of the characters. Not even Nagisa, who I'm guessing that's aimed at. Also, I don't know anything about Kyoani, although I assume it's an animation studio based on the context.

Kyoani is the studio that did Free!, but they're best known for shows full of "innocent" fanservice in the form of moe girls with popular personality tropes (K-ON! is probably the most famous example). The average person can't be expected to know there was anything sketchy about it. You'd have to really know about the culture it panders to, but I think that's unreasonable to expect people to know when they're just looking for something fun to watch. The shows appeal to their target audience for kind of creepy reasons but also have wider appeal for completely normal reasons.

In conclusion: Ignore thought-policing AYRT and don't feel bad for liking Free!

But, Kyoani really isn't creepy. The studio's mostly women and they intentionally toned down the pandering elements from K-ON's source material. The show was literally clean enough to air on Japanese Disney Channel.

As in it actually aired on it.

You lose for saying "problematic."
