Yavanna is patron Valië of Hobbits.

This is extremely prevalent on the kink meme, and often played on with Bilbo/[Dwarf] romances. I am not against it myself, but I think there is just as good a case for Nessa and Vána as patrons, as hobbits are a bouncy people fond of dancing and Yavanna seems more of a patron of wild nature - trees and forests, while her sister Vána is more flowers, so probably more inclined to cultivated plants.

I don't people claim it canon, not like Aulë being patron of the Dwarves is canon, or Elves often naming Elbereth (Varda) as their favourite, but it's just so comment in fanfic.

Oh, and a big part of why Yavanna as Hobbit patron gets played on is that she's married to Aulë, so a hobbit/dwarf pairing gets played as reflecting their respective Valar.

Hmmm, I do like the Yavanna as the patron Valar for Hobbits thing, but you've made a good point about Vána as well. I could go for either I think(I haven't read any Hobbit fic in a while so I don't know how wide-spead it's become, it was pretty common as it is).

I have seen at least a couple of fics where Hobbits venerate all the Valar equally. An aside one author made is the idea of a festival dedicated to telling jokes and laughing, in hopes of cheering up Nienna a little.

The idea of Yavanna as a patron makes sense but I really don't like when they go further and say that she actually created the Hobbits. That seems really prevalent on the kink meme too.

I can accept it on a fic-by-fic basis, but it has to have a good reasoning for me to accept it easily.

Like one fic I read that had that hobbits are Entings (Baby Ents) who were transformed after early Men hunted and massacred them and the Entwives. That at least manages to borrow from the one canon race that legitimately belongs to Yavanna. I also have my own "Hobbit as Yavanna's Children" idea, but it involves her adopting them, not outright making them.

Thing is, too many people just say "Yavanna's creations!" and don't bother explaining, and while it won't throw me out of a fic (I tolerate a hell of a lot), it erks me the same way Elves committing rape does (that is, don't have Elves be rapists unless you are casting them as servant-of-Morgoth-level evil).
