It does depend on your prescription, too. I'm massively nearsighted (enough that I now have 4 pairs of glasses, each for focusing at a different distance) and both my ophthalmologists have said that Lasik wouldn't do me any good as my eyeball is so "long."

But it certainly doesn't hurt to have a consult.

(Also -- there are a ton of different contacts: have you tried more than one type? The soft "disposable" ones are far more comfortable than any of the hard/gas permeable ones, imo. Also, the type of solution you use can have a really big impact on eye comfort: personally I found the hydrogen peroxide solutions like ClearCare to be much kinder on my eyes than the other formulations (as long as you do soak them the recommended length of time.)
