Have you considered the following?

1. Reading a book
2. Going to the park
3. Taking up underwater basket weaving
4. (insert additional options)

There is a world outside the computer and outside fandom. It even exists outside school and work! (Shocking, I know.) If you want to make friends but get away from popular fandom things, your best bet is getting involved with other fun things that are not at all related. Otherwise (assuming you hang out on tumblr, given the fandoms) you'll just have to deal with it, the same way the rest of the world deals with Justin Bieber and the Kardashians.

Thanks, Captain Condescending!

I manage to avoid Bieber and any Kardashians in my day-to-day in "OMG have you heard about this OUTSIDE thing???". It's even easier to manage what you come across online. OP just needs some carefully-planned Tumblr Savior/Xkit in their life, that's all.
