Well, the guys surely seems to be damaging the chances of that fic with that behavior. No wonder people are wary and annoyed with that fic.

That being, said, I don't think they are really damaging your chances of your fic being noticed. Sure, there's always this one fic we all love to read over and over again, but after a while, we need more and we'll inevitably search for more fics.

But I would advice you not to sound bitter inside your fandom. Because there's gonna be people who'll honestly love that fic, and if they come to your blog and find you complaining about it, you'll sound bitter then, and that would really hurt your chances. I know because my fandom is similar, and I do love my popular fic, but I also like to find and read other people's fics. Sadly, some angry people from my fandom has gone to the other extreme and has written inflamatory posts insulting the fic and the author, basically saying how no one should read that fic, because it's mediocre (which is not). I won't touch those people's fics with a ten-foot pole now, and I have even blocked several of them, because boy they do sound bitter and jealous, which really, they should not have been, considering I also liked some of their previous works until then.

They've fallen into the other extreme, telling people what to read, which is exactly the same behavior they hated in the first place. You don't want to be those people, OP.
