Got any ideas rotting on the vine?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-11 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I mostly mean this in fic-related sense: Scenes or even just lines you love but can't find a whole story for or WIPs you can't seem to finish, but I suppose it coul be applicable to life in general, too.

Tell us! Maybe we can help (or at least encourage).

Well, I have two WIP fics that have been sitting untouched for months. They're both smut. One is about a dude jacking it while possessing another dude and one is about a dude jacking it to another dude's soulless body.

...Quite apart from the fact that I don't know how to whip these into publishable shape, I'm not sure they'd have too much of an audience. :P

I've long had a Castle scene in mind where Ryan turns up dead, and even though they're expressly forbidden from working his case, the team has their own little investigation going on at Castle's loft. There's a murder board with Ryan's picture at the top. No one says anything about it, but eventually it disappears because none of them can bear to look at it.

I tried doing this for NaNoWriMo last year, but I just couldn't make the case work. Actually, I tried a couple Ryan-related ideas and I could never make the cases work.

This is why I leave the writing to other people, mostly.

I've got a fic that puts Disney characters in modern day Washington D.C. I really just need to stop screwing around and update it.

I've always got half-written fic somewhere. :/

Too many.

I don't remember if this concept is based on Harry Potter canon or not, but I love the idea of the Weasleys finding a package on their doorstep, and it's Percy's broken wand, signifying that Death Eaters/Voldemort had captured and/or killed him. Set during books 6 and 7 when he was persona non grata at The Burrow of course. Sometimes in this scene, I include Death Eaters flying overhead and dropping his body in the lawn, with somebody at the house slowing the descent as he falls.

But lord knows between what I've already published and WIPs that are already languishing, I've got enough Percy Weasley drama without creating more.

Yes. "Yes" is in fact a mass understatement.

To start with I have a lot of plot bunnies here: http://archiveofourown.org/works/750334/chapters/1400434
A lot of them are ridiculously detailed.(They're for the anime series Last Exile, but if anyone finds anything they think they can use for a different fandom, feel free to go for it!)

I have a few MCU fics kind of in mind, mostly Steve/Darcy and Bruce/Natasha post-Captain America 2.

I also have an OUAT fanmix that I SHOULD make but don't really have the energy to.

I also need to actually write my novel, but I actually worked on it this week. \( )/

Everything from my porn days that could have been continued. The demon story, the dream spirit story, the story about the living suit of armor . . . I want to tell the rest of those stories, but I've lost confidence in my ability to write cute and healthy sensuality that doesn't come off as twisted. (In my defense, most of my models for how to write a sex scene are really rapey.)

Millions. I'm also way past a deadline for something and it's causing me a lot of anxiety.

Yes. MCU - Tony is related to Steve.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-12 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I have this idea that they have all sorts of biological material (blood, skin samples, etc.) from Steve for medical testing and trying to replicate the super soldier thing and Howard... acquired some of it for his own testing and experiments, but doesn't use all of it. Years later, when he decides to have a kid, he thinks, "Hey, a kid like me AND Steve would be awesome." So he does messes around with the genetics and ends up with Tony. And part of the reason that Howard is disappointed is that Tony's not like Steve. So, Tony finds out and his daddy issues explode.

I've gotten into perfume as a fandom, and I've been writing fic to go along with a lot of the perfumes I've been testing.

I've got a few pages of Inara/Nandi that I need to finish and an outline for a fic I'm going to call "The Politics of Perfume" in which Elizabeth Weir's graduate school mentor teaches her how to use perfume to build persona and as a negotiating tactic.

So many. The Community/MLP crossover where Rarity is Jeff's cousin. The Chuck/Thoughtcrimes crossover I've been writing for my best friend for years but don't actually know the plot of yet. The thing with Eleven cuddling Amy paternally and singing her to sleep during Rory's "erased from existence" period. The bit where Casey sneaks into the prep room to say a few awkwardly fond words to Sarah before she marries Chuck. And probably a dozen others that I won't remember until I go poking through my drafts folder again.

I usually have a bunch of fic ideas running around in my head at any given time that I only feel like writing when I'm at work and can't write. The main one I should probably be working on right now is a K Project zombie apocalypse AU that was my NaNo project (which I started on the assumption that "Hey, it's fanfic, I bet I can actually finish this one once November's over!" LOLNope). I'm about 3/4ths of the way through, not counting the major editing I'll need to do if I ever finish it. Got a little done on it the other day but I keep getting distracted by other things.

I've got several WIP's in my drawing folder that I open up every now and then, stare at and then get distracted by something new I want to doodle. I do eventually get around to finishing them but I've got one image that has been sitting in there for months atm.

I have several RP 'verses with Valandhir that are more or less up in the air. Aesir (Boromir) is still in the Second Age, I don't know where the war is going with Elenarien, Elennárë would like a chance to have arms and legs, as well as have her elven family, there's a version of the Erebor quest with a silmaril in Kíli's pocket, and a version of the War of the Ring where Anvari is Boromir's son. Plus another ;verse we just started and didn't finish the opening scene on, where Boromir has a rock and is just finding out while Kíli is shaping it that it's alive.

I have also been idly batting around a concept of a fantasy world I at least want to write up a description of, probably buried in my muse-comm, but at least it'd be somewhere.

also 5k of one life to live fanfic about the kyle/fish college years which i really want to finish someday and approximately 3 people would read lmao

Oh hells yes. Three novel-length sequels to the first fanfiction novel I wrote. Plus I need to go back and edit/rewrite that one.

A four-novel profic romance series.

Another four-novel profic fantasy/romance series.

Two more novel-length fanfic novels.

A lengthy PWP.

Several fills for prompt requests that I threw out into the universe.

I had this idea for a story set during the Clone Wars cartoon where an injured clone trooper starts writing fiction while he's recuperating. All his stories are bad Mary Sue crap featuring a clone trooper who kicks ass, always gets the girl, and in the climax of every story kills someone force-sensitive, either a sith or a rogue Jedi, because for some reason that idea is just stuck in his subconscious somewhere. The other clones love his stories, because one Mary Sue clone soldier is just like the other.

The Emperor, however, is not happy. This is putting the secrecy of his plans in jeopardy. Something must be done

If I knew more about Star Wars, I might have written this, but I just don't know Star Wars that well.

So many kink meme fills in progress. Most notably a huge Ace Attorney fic (premise was that Dahlia and Iris are not twins, but the same person with multiple personalities) and an angsty Tiger & Bunny fic (how Kotetsu's life fell apart after his wife's death to the point where Kaede HAD to go live with her grandma), both of which have been on hiatus for over a year because my health has sucked too much for me to concentrate on anything, including plotting, much less actually writing. And uh, the second was kind of hitting close to home.

But I just started on a new dietary plan over the weekend, and I dunno if it's a coincidence or the placebo effect or if the anecdotes were true about seeing improvement within a week, but I've actually felt a lot better the last couple of days. Even if I do magically feel much better soon though, gonna take some time to get my momentum back on those. :/

I'm working on an AU where globally administered Compatibility Tests are the norm for people to find their life partners (or at least possibles). People don't take them until they are in their mid-twenties or later and they are ready to settle down. Some people never take them at all: they are called "free-rangers" and are somewhat frowned upon for not being quite stable or conforming, but it's their choice.

Guy A is a brilliant scientist and doesn't trust the global Compatibility Test, thinks psychology is hocus-pocus, really (per xkcd's Purity). But he's also quite lonely, is getting on in years (mid-thirties) and hasn't had any successful relationships. He's insecure about personal relationships, poorly socialized, and abrasive in a professional setting. So he acquires a false identity and secretly takes the damned thing, careful to keep it on the DL so he isn't mocked by his peers. Then he gets his results back to discover he is compatible with exactly no one.

He internalizes this information to mean he is even less lovable than he'd heretofore suspected, not realizing the exact type of person he might be compatible with (Guy B), the kind of person who'd put up with his abrasive, sarcastic personality, who could keep up with his quicksilver mind, is just the kind of free-ranger who wouldn't take the test either.

So that's where I'm stuck. Because I've got them working and being together, but how do I reveal they are ultimately capital "C" compatible, or do I even want to? Is the point that the Compatibility Test is bogus, or the fact that they both don't need it the most telling thing? It kind of falls apart thematically. All I know is I kind of had a point and then I lost it writing the sex. It's always fun writing sex.
