Well "I will be in hospital for a while, then recovering" should be excuse enough if you want to be vague.

That's true, though if OP mentions the hospital there's a decent chance someone will get concerned and ask why. Of course they could just reply, "It's nothing serious, don't worry", but even "Hey, I'll be busy for a week or two so don't fret about me" would work as well.

Though I feel like it might just be easier to tell them the truth, because pregnancy takes a lot out of you and I imagine they'll be busy for a lot longer than a week or two. They might be pretty damn busy from here on out...

(Haven't experienced it myself, don't want to either, but I have friends who have and they have very little free time. Everyone's experience is different though, so...maybe they'll make time.)
