By this logic, you'd hate every single character in the books.

I mean, maybe you do, and if so that's your prerogative. But the standards people are using here are modified to account for the setting and culture. Yeah, it's a shit culture, but that was kind of the point when GRRM wanted to write something ~gritty~.

Practically every character in GOT is awful to some degree. The issue with Tyrion is that he's not all that noble or good in the books, whereas he's practically a hero in the show, so there's a disconnect in the fandom between show watchers and book readers when it comes to his character.

not sure how that ties into the comment I was replying to though. and I've only seen one ep of the show, so I'm not commenting on that.

I think the problem is the OP of the thread said "people say tyrion's a misogynist" and several jumped in to say "Well, everybody is" as if that wasn't a legit reason for disliking the character.

to be quite fair, though, it's not a legit reason for disliking him if you want to still be in this fandom. Because you will literally end up disliking every. single. character or at least the vast majority of them and getting basically zero enjoyment out of this fandom.

Context is important. If you're not willing to overlook the major flaws that every character has in this series, it's probably not the series for you.
