Maybe it comes from being raised Catholic, IDK, but I can't get over feeling weird about it. Intellectually, I know that it's totally normal and healthy and pretty much everyone does it, etc. so I don't necessarily feel guilty about it just...weird. Like I have a decent amount of sex toys and the idea of someone discovering them is one of the most horrifying things I can imagine. Partly because everyone that knows me apparently thinks of me as 'innocent' for some reason (despite the fact that I'm so not but I guess I hide it well?) and also because I'm single right now and I feel like people would be all judgey about it like you can't find a boyfriend so that's why you do it, like there's this stigma that only lonely/desperate/pathetic people do it.

And I mean I'm sure most people wouldn't want to advertise their masturbation habits or anything I just feel like I'm probably more uptight about it than everyone else. Recently I thought I was going to be moving (it turned out I'm not) and I had some serious anxiety about how I was going to move my sex toy bag to wherever I moved to without the people helping me move figuring out what was in it. Like, it actually kept me up at night worrying about it.

I don't totally know what I'm even asking here but I guess does anyone feel this way? Or felt this way? How do you get over it?

No, I really don't. I mean, I'd feel weird if someone walked in on me while I was masturbating.

But I've flat out admitted that I do it, and discussed techniques with people before. If you want to get over feeling weird about it, maybe start by admitting to a trusted friend that you do it?

Or, this may be jumping into the deep end of the pool, but attend one of those sex toy sales parties?

I can't speak to ayrt, but I went a sex toy party, and I felt really awesome and very sex positive and not at all ashamed for like a week. And then I went right back to feeling guilty. meh.

It's not Catholism [and seriously, it's a little annoying that seems to be a lot of people's go to explanation]. Western culture as a whole is weird about sexuality [and not just orientation-wise].

my parents are Christian, but they're hardly "fundamentalist rigid-gender-roles" Christians

so i think this is definitely more of a Western culture thing. i think there's this weird tension between more progressive ideas about sexuality and more conservative ideas. (Like the fact that it's more acceptable to show people getting gunned down and brutally murdered in American cinema than it is to show a woman getting enjoyment out of sex. what the hell is wrong with people.)

i mean, you could definitely blame part of it on Christian heritage, but you can't really separate that from the cultural cloth. if that makes any sense.

This "fact" is actual bullshit. Yes I've seen This Film Is Not Yet Rated. Still actual bullshit in my mainstream-movie conscious-viewing experience.

No but all the Catholics or ex-Catholics I've met feel that way so...I don't know.
