It's ironic, because your reaction to his words describes perfectly his point. I think he's saying that you have every right to say you are offended (if he is saying anything on that aspect at all) but you Should Not Expect other people to change themselves because of your opinion.
I'm sorry to say, but people do have a right not to like, or to criticise shows you like. They don't have a right not to respect you, but do you respect them having their opinion?
I agree, respect is required when people disagree. But you cannot let other people's opinions change what you want to do. (As long as it doesn't hurt anyone etc!! of course, duh.)
