Oh man. D:

My whole situation was that, at the time I'd commissioned it (2005, I think?), I didn't have a job. So $30 was a pretty big deal to get swindled on. I didn't want to make a huge fuss about it, since this artist had something of a standing in the furry fandom (don't ask), and eventually I went to artists_beware. They told me to talk to the artist (which I did, and got radio silence for the longest time), and then said artist found my post and promised to finish it. Which they did...

... About 2 years later (all while doing a variety of personal projects and art for their friends in the interim). By the time they'd finished, I'd completely redesigned the character I'd paid them to draw (recolored their hair and gave them a new outfit) and got rid of the other character that I'd paid to have included with them. At that point, I'd largely forgotten about the picture, so I was dubiously surprised they finally followed through. Normally, I'm pretty laid back and reasonable when it comes to waiting periods -because I know people have lives and Life Happens-, but after that incident, I vowed I'd only commission good/close friends and reputable artists who have a good track record.

By the way? This same person would later go on to mooch/steal close to a thousand dollars from my best friend so they could get their flaky ass to the San Diego Comic Con a few years back. They never once repaid my friend, and when they were all but called out on this theft, they started crying crocodile tears and attempted to play the victim. We'd later find out they'd earned and spent $2000-ish on merchandise at SDCC last year (after once again mooching off of someone else's unsuspecting generosity following pitching a fit they missed out on SDCC sign ups, and got not only a free pass from a Pro friend, but also a free ride hotel stay).

... Yeah. That got long and rambly there, but hopefully you get what I mean.
