Once in junior high we had to trade papers and grade each other's work. The girl who graded my paper crossed out where I'd written "through" and wrote "thru" next to it. I'm still kind of steamed about it 22 years later.

What I hate is any instance of "for all intensive purposes." I mean, are you even thinking about what you're writing? Does that phrase even make sense to you?

I'd be annoyed by that "correction," too!

Regarding "for all intensive purposes" - ugh, I saw a fic recently that had a ton of mistakes of that nature (substituting phrases that sounded similar to the correct ones). I guess it takes too much time to proof-read carefully?

THIS. All the phrases like this. Like "could of" when someone means "could have" or "could've." Like, seriously, did you ever stop and think "wow, 'could of' makes no sense at all given the definitions of those words"? And while I sympathize with their/there mix-ups, I have no sympathy for there/they're or their/they're. THE "'RE" IS SHORT FOR "ARE." HOW IS THIS NOT OBVIOUS.

Yesssssss nonsensical grammar is my only peeve. Technical grammar/usage errors I can shrug off, but stuff that you should be able to just figure out if you took two seconds to think about what you're writing is so annoying.
