I agree. People don't realize that video game companies are a business. You can cosplay, draw fanart and write fanfic about female video game characters all you want but if you aren't buying the games and the official tie-in merchandise, video game companies aren't going to make more games with them. They aren't making money. And that's the bottom line. They have to make money in order to stay in business. They aren't a charity.

This.

It's the same with art, it's a business too.
Imagine that.

This. And "but I don't own the system" isn't really an excuse either if you're serious about supporting something. I own a few games for systems I don't have yet just because I wanted to support the creators by purchasing the game new on release day.

You must lead a pretty cushy lifestyle, if you can afford to buy a whole new system for one or two games, or just to support an idea in the industry.

For some of us, that's the difference between being able to pay our bills or keep food on the table.
Don't expect things like this out of other people, just because you have enough excess to throw at them.

Did you read what I said? I didn't buy the system, I bought the games. I still don't have the system, I just wanted to support the creators of those particular games because I really liked the concepts behind them and I want the creators to have the money to make more games like that.

Except that the particular way this was released (low-volume platform & no promotion when it finally did arrive for decent platforms) has a lot more to do with the lack of sales than any individual decisions.

Yes. I didn't even know AC:Lib was available for XBox360. And as soon as I was aware of it, I bought it.

Like I have ~$300 to spend on a handheld platform and a game? Especially a platform that hasn't gotten off the ground, and I'd only ever want it for that one game?

It does annoy me that the 4 protagonists of Unity are all your stock video game Stubbly White Guy. Women AND POC existed in France during the Revolution. But nope, apparently there weren't enough Stubbly White Guys in gaming already.

I'll still play it, because it looks gorgeous and I like the series. But I won't buy it.
