Bros and neckbeards still rule the gaming industry and fandom. If they thought the majority of players were going to buy a game featuring a woman, we would get more games featuring women. The amount of women buying and playing the "hardcore" AAA titles are most likely a very small minority.

I agree except for your last sentence. Studies have shown that recently that is just not true at all.

Links?

Misfired down below, but I'll repaste anyway:

Maybe this one? It's the only recent study I've seen around.

Here's the conclusions the ESA drew from their own study: http://www.theesa.com/facts/pdfs/ESA_EF_2014.pdf

They seem pretty reputable.

I used to work in a game store and I have to agree with the anon above you. Sure, we'd get plenty of women in the store, but most of them were buying things like Pokemon, Zelda and other RPGs, Ace Attorney, etc. rather than AAA titles.

When we did events for stuff like Halo and Call of Duty? 99% guys.

I wouldn't buy a dudebro game in a gamestore to avoid having to deal with stupid comments from clerks and/or bystanders. I buy 'em online when I want them (admittedly: not for myself, but for my (female) roomie.)

I am so sorry for you guys. We've got awesome shop. The local managed totally knows my tastes is quick to rec related titles and has no problem asking me about other AAA action titles OR pokemon because FUCK YOU I BUY WHAT I WANT, and he knows I'm the one playing them not my husband.

Man, I'm fucking blessed.

I don't play Call of Duty or Halo but I don't play those others either. Though I'm a little fuzzy as to what counts as an RPG. (Farcry? Skyrim? GTA?)

That last game I bought was the Deadpool game. It's a special kinda of terrible and I love it.

I mean it really is that most people play different types of games and that's ok.
