See, I definitely see where the shippers are coming from, and I definitely think there's a romantic/sexual element to both of their dynamics...but I also find it creepy and uncomfortable, and thought the point of those romantic/sexual elements was to be creepy and uncomfortable.

I have a big thing for "young woman/older monster!guy" ships like these (see also: Integra/Alucard), and the creepiness is a big part of the way I ship them -- because it makes it that much more visceral that the female character is ultimately in control. I love seeing these powerful, threatening supernatural creatures who are still dangerous to just about anyone else, but defanged and subordinate (even if they still talk a scary game) when it comes to this one young woman.

Talking about my vague memories of animated!Lydia/Beetlejuice here, not the movie so much.

And yeah, IRL it would just be flat-out creepy. But IRL you can't yank the rug out from under some manipulative older guy's plans by declaring "You have no power over me." The appeal is in the fairytale canon where Sarah can totally do that.

Yes, I agree 100%! Also the Beetlejuice cartoon changed their relationship a lot, and I watched both the cartoon and the movie as a kid so they got intermingled in my mind.
