i'm curious: what would you consider an acceptable "story reason" for including poc, women, and fat characters in a show

As deeply flawed as Korra is, I think an anon upthread made a good point about how it doesn't come off nearly as calculated and pandering as SU does. And it has even MORE representation than SU. Some stories just feel more natural. Korra may suck but it oozes sincerity. Steven Universe just feels so blandly designed to appeal to a certain crowd.

I WOULD AGAIN LIKE TO REITERATE, all of this would be fine if the show was good. Or BETTER at least. Because the puppets aren't entertaining, so people start focusing on the strings holding them up instead. And what a shock, most of the creators have a presence on places like Tumblr. WHO. COULD HAVE GUESSED.
