But the thing is, I doubt anyone who was upset with the rape scene is trying to say Jaime was ever a perfect being that could do no wrong.

Yes, he threw Bran out of the window. But that was also before he went on the little "adventure" with Brienne, stopped her from being raped, + became a little less of a shitty person. It took away from that characterization that was happening with him. Not to mention I'm faiiirly certain the Jaime/Cersei scene is consensual in the book.
