I got unnecessarily emotional about Sandor. First the happy kind of emotional about him being protective of Arya, and then the less happy kind of emotional. ;_; I didn't even think I liked him that much, but I'm gonna miss the bastard.

Is he dead, though? (I didn't read the books.) I don't count anyone dead in GOT until their head is on a pike or their parents are fucking on their coffin.

It's the same in the books, pretty much. Arya leaves him dying, but we don't actually see him dead. I'm still pretty convinced he's alive, tbh!

BOOK SPOILERS IN THIS POST BOOK SPOILERS IN THIS POST

We never really see him again but it's strongly implied that he survives and becomes a monk on that one island with all the monks, but that he is dead in the sense that he is done being Sandor Clegane and his part in the story is over.

BOOK SPOILERS IN THIS POST ONCE AGAIN I AM TELLING YOU THAT THERE WERE BOOK SPOILERS IN THAT POST

I think the finale's director pretty much confirmed he's dead. Lemme see if I can dig up the link...

I won't believe it until the next season comes out and it's guaranteed he's not cast in any of it.

Well, he's not dead yet so he could always return. I'm sure they left him bleeding out for exactly that reason (so they could bring him back if they chose to).

In the books as well as the show there's actually nothing to indicate whether or not he's really dead. That's the thing with GRRM; if a character dies or is killed off it's always described and left totally unambiguous.

The show and the books just have Arya walking away from him as he screams at her to kill him. There's no true death scene. He might yet return to exact revenge on his brother as he has promised to do many times throughout the series.

A bit unrelated, but am I the only one who doesn't give a shit if Cleganebowl happens or not? I'd be fine if it didn't tbh.

It'd be really weird if it didn't happen considering GRRM has gone to the trouble of foreshadowing it so hard... but no I wouldn't be crushed. It would just be surprising.

Maybe if Gregor wasn't some sort of Frankenstein's monster and headless, then I'd be more hyped for it and would have more meaning to me. But Sandor would be fighting an undead monster, not the brother who tormented him. Just a shell.

But that might end up being what happens to Sandor too, if he happens to come back in the same way as Catelyn (ie. as an undead zombie who is slowly but constantly losing his memories).

Fuck, I forgot to warn for spoilers.

Was there any hint that Sandor came back the same way as Cat? You've got me a bit confused tbh. Mind elaborating? It has been a while since I read the books.

Re: SPOILERS

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2014-06-17 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
There's nothing in the books that necessarily hints that Sandor is going to come back from the dead. It's just a theory that it could happen since people have been coming back from the dead rather a lot lately in the books a la Cat and Berric Dondarrion.

Since it's heavily implied that there's no help around for him when Sandor dies, but it's also been so heavily foreshadowed that he will be the one to kill his brother, the obvious solution is to have him return from the dead in the same way they have.

Re: SPOILERS

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! I get what you mean now! I don't think he died at all. The Hound did, but Sandor himself is very much alive and didn't come back like Cat did. That's how I read it anyway that he didn't physically die. Sorry for my confusion.

What's the point though? Oberyn beat him to the point. He's just be killing an undead monster..

Re: SPOILERS

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2014-06-17 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
An undead monster that still has the shape of his brother and represents a lifetime of PTSD and psychological suffering? I dunno. I think the point could just be that he gets to fulfill a goal he has had his entire life.

Re: SPOILERS

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
You've got a point. Maybe after seeing what Gregor has become, it will have some sort of impact on Sandor.
