Game of Thrones season finale!!

Let's discuss!

No LSH was really disappointing.

I don't know. I feel like it might have packed too much in the episode to do that. I hope they do bring her in next season, though. That would actually be a great way to open the season.

Oh, I get that. There was a lot in this episide and adding her might not have been feasible. I just thought the LSH reveal would have been a perfect cliffhanger for the season finale.

I was so hyped for it and my friend's reaction to it. Oh well, I got him with Obeyn's death so there's that.

Also, I'm super disappointed the Mountain didn't die screaming in agony. But other than, I loved the bit with Cersei and Qyburn.

Yeah, I get what people say about it being too packed an episode, but it would have been suuuuch a cool cliffhanger. I've been dying to see my show-watching friends' reactions haha

I've felt better about it as the day's gone on. There was already a ton going on in that episode, and LSH would have been too out-of-nowhere. Like it was said above, that could be a great way to kick off next season.

I really loved parts of it. Parts of it I didn't love, though. I don't think, in spite of what the writers said, that it was the best final of the show.

One thing that bugged me was how they made Shae more sympathetic and yet stuck to the same end for her. That makes Tyrion look worse than he did in the books. Also, by not having him and Jaime have their conversation about Tyrion's first wife, they missed out an important part of why Tyrion reacted the way he did.

I don't mind having Arya and Brienne meet up. I actually loved that scene and the Brienne/Hound fight.

The Dany stuff was okay, though I wouldn't have minded a bit more.

I liked what they did with Bran and didn't mind Jojen being killed off.

Stannis saving the day was pretty cool. Jon talking about Ned almost made me teary. That stuff was awesome.

Not having read the books, what was different about the Shae-Tyrion scene? He certainly didn't seem NICE, but at the same time she seemed to be about to call a guard/stab him in the face, and she's twice as big as him, so I didn't get the icky feelings I've gotten with the murder of other women in the show. Someone tries to kill you, you have a right to kill them right back!

In the books, she's a complete golddigger. She doesn't care for him at all. He projects all this history with his first wife onto her when Shae is just in it for the money. In the show, she clearly has feelings for him and cares for Sansa.

But then they wrote the courtroom scene exactly the same as well as the strangling scene. There is no explanation for her being in Tywin's bed. And the way he kills her is just so brutal, especially because he walked up to her clearly pissed and wanting to do something to her.

I disagree. I don't think this Shae was any more sympathetic than she was in the books, she just had more of a relationship with Sansa. Otherwise in the books and the show she claimed she loved Tyrion, wanted to marry him and run away with him and be with him forever ....etc.

The only thing I can really recall about her death is that in the books she didn't go for the knife to try to defend herself upon seeing Tyrion. Book Tyrion actually just kills a naked and completely defenseless woman; she was even asleep until he starts strangling her. The show made Tyrion seem more justified in killing her, if anything.

I got unnecessarily emotional about Sandor. First the happy kind of emotional about him being protective of Arya, and then the less happy kind of emotional. ;_; I didn't even think I liked him that much, but I'm gonna miss the bastard.

Is he dead, though? (I didn't read the books.) I don't count anyone dead in GOT until their head is on a pike or their parents are fucking on their coffin.

It's the same in the books, pretty much. Arya leaves him dying, but we don't actually see him dead. I'm still pretty convinced he's alive, tbh!

I think the finale's director pretty much confirmed he's dead. Lemme see if I can dig up the link...

Well, he's not dead yet so he could always return. I'm sure they left him bleeding out for exactly that reason (so they could bring him back if they chose to).

In the books as well as the show there's actually nothing to indicate whether or not he's really dead. That's the thing with GRRM; if a character dies or is killed off it's always described and left totally unambiguous.

The show and the books just have Arya walking away from him as he screams at her to kill him. There's no true death scene. He might yet return to exact revenge on his brother as he has promised to do many times throughout the series.

A bit unrelated, but am I the only one who doesn't give a shit if Cleganebowl happens or not? I'd be fine if it didn't tbh.

Not enough Sansa.

Sansa's arc got concluded almost as far as it has in the novels though. If they had put anything else in they wouldn't have anything left to get into next season.

There won't be enough Sansa until they have an entire season just focused on her.

I'm glad Shae went out fighting. She always had that scrappy attitude, and she went out as she'd always presented herself.

Re: Game of Thrones season finale!!

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2014-06-17 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I liked that change from the books too, honestly. It made it seem like less of a downright evil move for Tyrion and more of a struggle turned brutal. Shae picks up the knife as soon as she sees him, instigating the confrontation in a way, instead of waking up to him standing over her and being immediately strangled.

It just seemed awful and almost premeditated in the books.
