Oh honey, your "in before" so totally does not cover what I was thinking, which is: parents dress their small children up in whatever they want in general. An infant cannot choose what onesie s/he gets plopped into. You ready to get upset over people dressing their kids this (WHAT IF S/HE DOESN'T LIKE GIRAFFES) or this (IS S/HE OLD ENOUGH TO EXPRESS A PREFERENCE FOR BUTTERFLIES) or this (HOW CAN AN INFANT ENJOY SPORTS)?

I have no actual memory of how my parents dressed me when I was under the age of 3. Something tells me that you don't, either. Something also tells me that you haven't experienced irreparable harm as a result of your parents dressing you according to their preferences when you were an infant/toddler.*

*(If you have, I'm truly sorry. You're kind of an extreme case, though)

This. I think it's hilarious how many tutu-pink skirts mom dressed me in and fluffy bows she put in my hair hoping for a girlish girl, considering what a tomboy I turned into. I wonder in retrospect if it's nature or reverse-nurture or what?

Poor mom.

I mean, I can understand an objection to an uncomfortable or over-elaborate costume- small children should be comfortable and free to roam. So in those cases, it's not really comparable to your examples of normal baby clothes. But I was just at Fanime last month with my brother-in-law dressed as Maes Hughes and my niece (just turned 1 that week) as Elicia, and her outfit was a normal baby dress and little sweater.
