I think you're being ridiculous. People have dressed up their babies in Halloween costumes forever, how is this different? Just putting them in clothes isn't forcing them to be in a fandom.

When I was three my mother dressed me as a baby chick for Halloween. I remember that I felt it was degrading but wore it to humor my mother because she thought it was adorable. 22 years I see the pictures? It was adorable.

Are you for real? It's just people dressing their babies as silly characters. Dressing babies up in stupid shit is half the fun of having a kid (at least until they get old enough to actively hate you for it)

And "My Mama's a weeaboo" is an extreme example where the woman was basically a psychopath. It really only applies to a very small group of people

Babies don't care what they wear. I personally think all babies should wear the hats with animal ears all the time. Otherwise, what's the point of them.

Dressing an infant or toddler up in a funny costume is in no way dragging them into a "lifestyle." Kids that age give very few fucks about what they're wearing anyway.

Hate to break it to you, OP, but most little kids love dressing up. It doesn't even matter as what, just give them a costume and chances are they'll be thrilled to wear it. Even more so if you tell them it's a superhero costume.

Besides, all kids have embarrassing photos - if they're that mortified by this when they grow up they need to kinda get over it ya know? And as long as the parents aren't making them do something they don't want to do...there is a difference between a toddler and a 10-year-old.

I dressed my infant up as Batman and took pictures of him the other day for his one month birthday. And it was fucking adorable and looking at them makes me smile. Just as much as the pictures I have of his older sister dressed as Spider-Man or Storm from the X-men (though she was old enough to pick that one out). If it's wrong to dress your infant in adorable outfits and take pictures, I don't want to be right.

Shouldn't we just let them wander around naked until they're old enough to tell us what they want to wear?? And even then, how do we know those are THEIR opinions, and not the media or our own tastes influencing them???

I am reminded of an encounter I had once at a con with a little girl who couldn't have been more than four years old. I had ducked into a bathroom to adjust some parts of my costume (I was dressed in Fuu's final level armor from Rayearth, so think shiny magical girl outfit) and this little girl was in there with her mother.

She took one look at me and exclaimed, "Mommy, look! A princess!" Cutest thing ever. She was so excited by it! Cons and costumes are super-exciting to little kids. Yeah, maybe they'll look back on it later and be embarrassed, but in the moment, they're either too little to care or they're in total heaven.

I don't mind it unless they are dressing them up as a character the kid should have no clue about.

Like, there is a pic of a kid dressed as Alex from Clockwork Orange floating around the internet and everyone is all "oh how cute and sweet" but all I can think is that the parent has dressed their kid up as a rapist. There is another of young child about six to eight dressed as Hannibal Lector (movie version in the straight jacket and face mask and tied to the trolley). Do six year olds really know who Hannibal is?
