Don't really get why everyone's disagreeing with you, because I've definitely seen at cons where parents drag their kids along and they're obviously not enjoying the convention.

Maybe you saw like, one moment where the kid was cranky? That happens to kids. Just because that's when you happened to see them doesn't mean they're bad parents and the kids was having an awful time the WHOLE time.

Possible, but at least for the cons I've been to, there really isn't much for toddlers to do. And dressing them up in uncomfortable clothes isn't going make them happier to be there.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Uh there isn't much for toddlers to do a lot of places. You just obviously don't want kids at 'your' events.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Air quotes don't work when it wasn't there in the first place.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Still not a big deal. Part of growing up is learning how to handle going places you don't really want to, because there will be times where kids have to go to social occasions or other places they aren't going to enjoy. Most kids don't like going shopping, either, but sometimes they have to come along.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
But you don't dress them up to go shopping and there's literally no obligation for them to be dressed up at a con.

I've seen kids at Disney that looked miserable only to see them a few minutes later looking happy as can be. That's just kids. Kids mood swing like you wouldn't believe. That kid that's crying? Will probably be giggling in a few minutes.

Sure there are times when the kid really is miserable (more than likely they are tired) and the parents suck for ignoring that, but most of the time you are just seeing a bad moment out of a day of the kid having tons of fun.

I mean, Disneyland's geared towards kids where as cons for the most part really aren't. I get if it's an interest of theirs or something, but for the most part toddlers aren't going to be interested in going to an anime or sci-fi convention, they're there because their parents are.

So are kids who have to go to dinner parties, and I had to be dressed up in stiff, uncomfortable clothing for those, and had to behave myself a lot better for them. Seriously?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, most toddlers aren't interested in most of the places their parents go. That doesn't mean they should just be left at home all the time unless it's somewhere they really want to be. They're little people, it's good for them to go different places and be exposed to people and the world. It's called socialization.

Hi OP.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hello, no argument.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Why do I just think you and the OP are just the type of people that hate seeing kids at cons at all.

Like the guy that tried to fuck a fish at akon and people tried to say the only reason he got in trouble was because the eevvviiill con staff let stupid kids into the con. (and no I am not tracking down the comment on facebook. re-reading all that stupidity will damage me for life)

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, I like kids. I don't like seeing them miserable.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, don't believe you. You just want to share your 'grown up' event.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it couldn't be the big crowds or the noises or that it's close to naptime or anything else. They HAVE to be hating the con.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Those go hand in hand though. Like what's a con with big crowds or loud people.

There's a reason why some cons have a designated area for children.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hate to break it to you but all your precious cons are considered 'family' events. Get over it. There will be kids and no you have no idea if a child is truly unhappy to be there.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, children are truly unreadable creatures where you can't tell if they're happy or not.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
And I've seen kids at cons who are obviously having fun dressing up as a character they like. Sure cons might not be fun for a kid 100 percent of the time, but that is not the dressing up that's the problem.

Plus, a lot of time kids have to do things with their parents that their parents enjoy. I used to have to go to my parent's bonfire/music gathering things even though I was bored stiff by them. There's nothing wrong with it.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-17 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
So I went to my first con at age 6 months, and my mom built my costume into hers. Sure, at that age I was as much a prop as a participant, but I still think it's awesome, tbh.

We went to cons my entire childhood, two or three a year. While I was probabily (certainly) an unhappy child at a convention at some point, this was less due to not wanting to be there and much more due to the fact that I (still) get overstimulated pretty easily. The cons were something that even at age 5 or 6 I looked forward to as much as my birthday or Christmas.

tl;dr: having lived it, I disagree with you 100%.
