OP, before you get upset about kids being dressed as characters from anime, games or tv shows, you should get upset about little girls that are being dragged to beauty competitions, put in frilly dresses, get make-up and their hair done and who have to strut on a catwalk all while being sexualized.

I think that's WAY worse and harmful than putting a child in a harmless costume. Especially because most kids actually like dressing up and as long as you're not doing it against your child's clear wishes (when the child can voice them already), it's fine.
