perhaps true, but those are at least masturbatory under the guise of conveying a decent story (that's not just "i want to date this person")? idk, i'm not really into fic

There's not that much of a difference in the end. It's not that all fic is bad, but... most is. The percentage of self-insert fic by canon character-proxy is staggeringly high, even in quality fic.

I guess that the guise does help, but I appreciate OC writers' moxie; at least they own up to it.

Either self-insert-by-proxy, or just really fetishistic fangirling. I've read fics, even ones considered quality by the fandom, where the author "voice" and the view of the character as eminently fuckable is just... overpowering the story. It's made a whole bunch of fics unreadable for me.
