Her genderbends are hilarious because someone compared her male ariel to the ariel picture and they look exactly the same except she changed the breasts to pecs.

I'd like to see creativity in genderbends instead of different outfit and similar hair. It's so boring.

and... changed the shape of his face and body... like... what else was she supposed to do?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-19 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Right? Like... Argue her Malriel looks like her Link, not that two pictures of the same character have similar faces.

Her art suffers from same face and she could have changed it as well as added different features and clothing to the character instead of simply swapping a few generic features.

I don't watch her art too often but whenever I see it, I'm reminded of 3 more pieces that look similar if not the same, like you said with this version and Link.

Same facedness has plagued many more artists than her. Or could be she just wanted to draw hot guys and has a very particular kind of hot she favors. Either way her coloring is good.

I've seen this complaint before, that genderbends don't change enough about the character, like the gulf between male and female in art should be hugely wide. So male!Ariel should be unshaven and rippling with muscle or something, I guess, instead of a pretty boy.

yeah. To me it's most interesting when you can make them as similar as possible to the previous character. Why SHOULD them being a different gender make them wildly different/unrecognizable/hugely stereotyped?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-19 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
YES. Muscle-bear M!Ariel forever, please. And keep King Triton male. And let them have incesty sex. And fuck Eric because he always reminds me of Uncle Jesse from Full House and that whole show just makes me want to hurl.

No, this isn't a troll. (Maybe it is, a little, but I'm serious about all of this.)

My favorite gender bends are the ones that consider what this character would look like if the CREATOR chose to make them the opposite gender. That is, they took their role in the story (with optional changes to plot to suit gender) and their concept but worked to make a male character instead of a female.

These, to me, are much more interesting than simply changing their body and making their hair shorter or whatever. A male Ariel done by Disney wouldn't look so much like female Ariel.

Except a "genderbend" is literally just taking the character from one to the other. What exactly are you expecting in terms of originality when it's meant to stay true to the original silhouette of the character?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-19 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Cruella and Ursula were changed into pretty boys and consequently lost their silhouettes in the process.

Genderbents aren't meant to be a straight transition from A to B because they end up sexier or more muscled than the original character which make it seem OOC.

I'm not talking Sakimichan's ones? I meant in general. It's the reason I also hate 90% of tf2 genderbends, they lose those silhouettes.

I'm trying to picture a true-to-form male Cruella and keep coming up with Mok from Rock and Rule.
