I guess I regret not asking for the phone number of a charming lady I met on the bus. She was a trainee security guard, very straightforward and down-to-earth, with an Amazonian build and a jagged scar across half her face. I didn't want to be rude or awkward, so we just chatted pleasantly and then said our goodbyes, but in retrospect, I don't think I would have caused her any offence--the worst that could have happened would be her saying no.

I've talked about other things I wish I had done or hadn't done, but I think regret involves the possibility of avoiding something. Most of my biggest mistakes were things I would never have avoided without knowledge or experience that I got as a direct result of the mistake.
