Would anyone actually care if it was "pandering"?

I mean, yeah, of course it's Marvel trying to score approval among the fans. That is literally their entire business model - get fan approval = get fan money.

Personally, I like how they're handling it thus far in Agent of Asgard. For all that he flirts with both Verity and Sigurd and has no problem with taking on female forms to get shit done, the story is ultimately about him trying to redeem himself from his evil past and contend with the All-Mother's new policies for Asgard. Loki's sexuality is present without dominating the story.

Now, I'll grant that Marvel suddenly shoehorning in a bunch of gayness at the end of Young Avengers was kind or ridiculous. But in a way, I also appreciate the plus side, which is that we got to appreciate the characters as a team full of badasses who strive to protect their families and their world and have their own dramas and non-stereotypical interactions, all ahead of finding out that they all are at least a little off-straight. Still not happy with the shoehorning, but I am happy with that silver lining at least.
